I'm an old analogue (yep) head from the 70's (PAiA, Mini, etc.) that has been creeping back into the electronic music area. The modern ambient/HOS stuff did it. I started a few months ago by snarfing up some of the smaller vintage gear on ebay (Korg MS-20, Moog Rogue). Then stumbled across Roger's web-page. Holly-Cow...you know how that went. First the emails as to whether this was a joke, then the moaning about not having the funds, can the MS-20 drive your VCO's (v/hz)?, blah, blah...ad nausium. The funds part is partially correct (I have come back to school for the doc in engineering - what the heck was I thinking?). Anyway, Roger (God bless him) kindly put up with my probings. That put me on the activity of trying to see which modules would get me up and running with the MS-20. I used the QSP22 as a starting point and worked backwards. However, every time I deleted a module it occurred to me that the power of the true modular is not apparent at first glance. Even ubiquitous modules like the little Processesor combined with some unknown (to me) routing could be very interesting. Hmmmm. Finally, I started digging through my old synth literature. There I found a couple of old Moog brochures for the little systems 12 and 15. I recall how much I really wanted one of those things back in the dee-aye-yie. My Mini used to drive me nuts for its lack of flexibility (one gets tired of the "fat-Moog-bass" after a while). OK, that did it. After watching a tattered old 2600 go for $2,500 on ebay I thought, compare that to Roger's stuff. The QSP22 is a modern incarnation of the old Moog 12/15 only much better. Roger seems to love his work and it shows. The design of everything is extremely well though out. It is as if Bob Moog had sat back for 30 years and said "Now lets build a modular given what we know". Actually, Roger stands on his own with this stuff (ahhh - forgive me Moog spirits). So, the toys go on ebay today. With any luck, Roger should get an order within the month. Well, no one asked to listen this horribly long story but I have a ton of work to do and this seemed like a good way to avoid that a bit longer (bring in the Entropy!!). Take care space fans, where ever you are. Scott
